Dr. Vincent G. Bird is currently the David A. Cofrin Endowed Professor of Endourology, Chief of the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery, and the Endourology and Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship Program Director in the Department of Urology at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Bird received his undergraduate education at Boston University, and attended medical school at the State University of New York, Stony Brook. He completed his urology residency training at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship training in laparoscopy and endourology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Bird is a Board-Certified Urologist.
Currently, his clinical practice focuses on endourology and minimally invasive surgery for urinary stone disease as well as prevention of urinary stone disease. His research focus is primarily related to clinical and basic science research relating to the etiology of urinary stone disease, prevention of urinary stone disease, new technologies for the treatment of urinary stones, and the effectiveness of different treatment modalities. Dr. Bird also works with the Department of Nephrology relating to mechanism and effects of acute kidney injury, metabolic evaluation and the prevention of urinary lithiasis.
Dr. Bird has published a number of studies relating assessment, prevention, and surgical treatment of urinary stone disease, as well as renal cancer and its treatment by means of minimally invasive procedures. He also has publications and interests relating to urologic imaging, specifically how imaging findings can be used to predict characteristics of urinary calculi.
Dr. Bird is also an active member of the American Urological Association, the Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association, the Endourological Society, the Florida Urological Society where he served as a past president. Dr. Bird is a SESAUA Health Policy Representative to the American Urological Association.
