Gaines Blasdel is a University of Michigan Medical School student. He is a transgender man and has five years of patient care experience in LGBT health, as well as extensive community based, peer leadership experience in gender affirming surgery. He centers this lived and community experience in academic inquiry, and has published about surgical outcomes, ethics, medical education, and community-based participatory research practices. His research interests include patient-centered outcomes, patient-facing quality measurement, and supporting patient decisionmaking.
