Inderbir S. Gill, MD, is Distinguished Professor & Chairman, Catherine & Joseph Aresty Department of Urology and Executive Director, USC Institute of Urology at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He holds the Shirley & Donald Skinner Chair in Urologic Cancer Surgery and is Associate Dean (Clinical Innovation). Previously, he was chairman & professor, department of urology at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, where he was on faculty for 12 years (1997-2009).
During his 15 years at USC, USC Urology has grown in scientific stature, clinical volumes, financial productivity and philanthropy. As a result, USC urology has progressed in U.S. News & World Report rankings from being outside the ‘Top 50’ in 2009 to being in the "Top 10" for 5 years in a row (#4 in 2019; #20 in 2024). USC Urology ranked #2 in NIH rankings nationally in 2022.
Dr Gill has published ~980 scientific papers with ~50,000 citations. H-index 120. Edited/co-edited 10 text-books, been on editorial boards of 9 journals. PI of R-01 grant from the NCI; co-PI on 3 other NIH grants. Invited for over 450 visiting professorships, lectures/live surgery demonstrations worldwide. Elected to the prestigious AAGUS (2003) and the Clinical Society of AAGUS (2009).
Received various honors - the Dr. B. C. Roy National Award for Eminent Medical Person awarded by the President of India (2005); St. Paul’s Medal by the British Urological Association (2006); honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England; President, 24th World Congress of Endourology & SWL (2006); USC Presidential Medallion (2013); listed in Thomson Reuters “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” (2014); AUA Ramon Guiteras Lecturer (2015); and AUA Chair Global Initiatives (2015-2017). Awarded the Spence Award by the AAGUS in 2024.
