Dr Stapleton is Professor of Medicine (Emeritus 2019) in the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the University of Washington and Attending Physician and Infectious Diseases Fellowship Director at Eisenhower Medical Center (2019 - present). She has been actively involved in clinical and laboratory-based research and clinical care related to urinary tract infections (UTIs) since 1987. Her interests and expertise in this field include clinical and mechanistic studies of prevention of recurrent UTI using antimicrobials, Lactobacillus probiotics and cranberry; laboratory and clinical studies of the vaginal microbiome in rUTI; probiotic lactobacillus-mediated restoration of the abnormal vaginal microbiota of women with rUTI; and virulence traits of uropathogenic E. coli. She is active nationally in advocacy and education for urological research, including service on the AUA guidelines committee leading to the first evidence-based guideline for recurrent UTI and this course.
