Ericka Stropka has been a member of the Tucson Police Department since 1999. Her former assignments have included: Patrol Officer, Bike Officer, Lead Police Officer, and Detective. While being assigned as a detective, she spent 5 years investigating crimes against vulnerable adults. She is currently assigned as a Patrol Lieutenant in Operations Division Midtown. Prior to her promotion, her supervisory experiences included: full-time Hostage Negotiation and Rapid Response Team sergeant, where she helped to implement the Community Network Team (CNT) which assists during protest and events involving large public gatherings. She was also a member of the Community Outreach Resources and Engagement (CORE) Section working specifically on the Substance Use Resource Team (SURT), where she helped implement a co-responder model when responding to substance misuse. Additionally, for over 6 years she was an auxiliary supervisor within the Hostage Negotiations Unit and has 10 years of previous experience as a Hostage Negotiator. During her time on the Hostage Negotiation Unit, she was selected to attend the FBI’s National Crisis Negotiation Course (NCNC) at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Lieutenant Stropka is a graduate of Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Interpersonal Relationships. To date she continues to instruct a variety of communication classes taught at the basic and post basic officer level, as well as to different professional staff within the department.
