Maarten de Rooij is a consultant radiologist from the Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen, the oldest town in the Netherlands, situated in the eastern part of the country. Dr. de Rooij is subspecialized in abdominal and in particular prostate imaging, with expertise in diagnostic multiparametric prostate MRI, staging examinations with PSMA PET-CT, and MR in-bore biopsies.
During his PhD in the Radboud university medical center in the Netherlands he studied the role of prostate MRI in the diagnostic pathway of prostate cancer, focussing not only on the diagnostic accuracy, but also on quality of life and cost-effectiveness. In 2013 he won the Lauterbur award for best MRI related research from the SCBT-MR (current SABI). He is author of research papers on prostate MRI, cost-effectiveness, and AI, and was invited for multiple international lectures.
His current reseach focusses on diagnostic MRI for prostate cancer, the quality of prostate MR imaging and on the role of AI in general and prostate radiology. He is supervising four PhD candidates and co-leads the international project on prostate image quality (PI-QUAL) and worldwide prostate AI challenge (PI-CAI).
