Dr. Vijaya Vemulakonda is a Professor of Pediatric Urology, Residency Program Director, and Director of Research for the Division of Urology at the University of Colorado. She earned her law degree cum laude from Harvard Law School and her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. She completed her urology residency at Baylor College of Medicine and her pediatric fellowship at Seattle Children's Hospital, University of Washington School of Medicine. She is active in the American Urologic Association, where she is a member of the AUA D&I Committee and AUA Updates Editorial Committee, the American Board of Urology, where she is a member of the Exam Committee, and the Society for Fetal Urology, where she serves as Secretary/Treasurer. Her clinical interests include the management of antenatally detected congenital urologic anomalies, including posterior urethral valves, anatomic and functional renal agenesis, and cloacal and bladder exstrophy variants, with an emphasis on the use of robot-assisted reconstructive techniques in these patients. Her research focuses on the development of evidence based guidelines to optimize surgical outcomes in children with congenital urologic anomalies and the use of the electronic health record to facilitate prospective multi-center collaborative surgical research. This work has been funded by an AHRQ PCOR K08 Career Development Award and the AUA Rising Stars in Urologic Research Award.
