Mario I. Fernández, MD, is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Clínica Alemana Universidad del Desarrollo, in Santiago (Chile) in the Center of Genetics and Genomics, where he leads urothelial cancer research projects. He is also a Faculty in the Department of Urology at Clínica Alemana de Santiago, where his clinical practice (special interest in Urologic Oncology and Endourology) is located. Dr. Fernández earned his undergraduate degree in Medicine from the P. Universidad Católica in Santiago and completed urology residency at Universidad de Chile. Dr. Fernández then obtained his doctoral degree at the Department of Urology of the University Hospital Mannheim in Germany. After a one-year stay as Visiting Scientist at the Department of Urology of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, he is a now a surgeon-scientist whose research efforts focus on genetic susceptibility, epidemiology, carcinogenesis and clinical and molecular prognostic factors in urothelial tumors. He has authored over 80 publications in peer reviewed journals as well as book chapters, serves as a reviewer for over 20 journals and is the current Editor-In-Chief of the Revista Chilena de Urología. He also leads the Bladder Cancer Working Group of the Confederación Americana de Urología (CAU), is a Core Committee Member of the IBCG and member od the Scientific Advisory Board of the WBCPC
