J. Quentin Clemens, MD, FACS, MSCI obtained his MD degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Clemens then completed his urologic residency training at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his Fellowship in Neurourology, Reconstruction and Incontinence with Edward J. McGuire at the University of Michigan. He is the Associate Chair for Research and Director of the Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS) Fellowship Program at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Clemens’ clinical interests include female urinary incontinence, complex fistulas and mesh erosions, bladder dysfunction due to neurologic disease, and interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome. He served as President of the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU) from 2024 to 2025. He has received numerous awards for his accomplishments in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, including the McGuire/ Zimskind Award from SUFU in 2014 and the Victor A. Politano Award from the AUA in 2026.
Dr. Clemens’ research interests are in the areas of epidemiology and health services research related to benign urologic diseases. He has been Principal Investigator on multiple NIH-funded projects related to urinary incontinence, interstitial cystitis and chronic prostatitis, including the recent NIDDK MAPP Research Network and NIDDK LURN Research Network. He served as Chair of the MAPP Network from 2013 to 2024.
Dr. Clemens was also previously involved in health policy issues with the AUA, where he was named the Gallagher Health Policy Scholar for 2008-2009. He served as Chair of the AUA Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee and Chair of the AUA Data Committee. In thesew roles he led the development of the AQUA registry and the AUA census. For these activities he was awarded the 2018 AUA Distinguished Service Award.
