Badar M. Mian, MD FACS, is Professor of Urology at Albany Medical Center, Albany, New York. His clinical and research interests are in the diagnosis and treatment of urologic cancers. Dr. Mian received his residency training in both Surgery and Urology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and completed fellowship training in Urologic Oncology and Cancer Biology at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Dr. Mian specializes in the management of cancers of the prostate and bladder, with 22 years of experience in robotic surgery. He is active in clinical research in diagnostic and treatment outcomes for prostate cancer. In addition, he has received funding to conduct clinical and basic molecular research to understand the clinical and biologic behavior of prostate and bladder cancer. Dr. Mian has conducted large randomized clinical trials and is currently leading two large multicenter or multinational trials on prostate cancer diagnosis and surgical outcomes. Additionally, he has served as the P.I. for dozens of sponsored clinical trials.
Dr. Mian is currently serving as the Secretary of the Urology Care Foundation, and has previously served as the President of Northeastern section of the American Urological Association (AUA). He serves as a reviewer of research abstracts and clinical guidelines of the AUA. Dr. Mian has directed educational activities during the AUA Annual Meetings including Instructional Courses and scientific program committees. He serves in the editorial or peer-reviewer role for eight major journals. Dr. Mian is a frequent guest speaker at national and international conferences delivering lectures on various aspects of urologic oncology.
