Dr. Kara Babaian is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois. She provides comprehensive urologic oncology clinical care for men and women diagnosed with urologic malignancies. She performs open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery, individually tailored for the needs of patients with cancers of the kidney, bladder, and prostate.
Dr. Babaian received her bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology with Comprehensive Honors from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 2001 and earned her medical degree from The University of Texas McGovern School of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 2006. Dr. Babaian completed a one-year Surgery internship at UCLA Medical Center followed by a four-year Urology residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin in 2011. After deciding to subspecialize in Urologic Oncology, Dr. Babaian completed a two-year Urologic Oncology Fellowship at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas in 2013. Dr. Babaian then went on to complete a minimally invasive urology fellowship at the University of California Irvine in 2014. Capitalizing on her training and her expertise in both Urologic Oncology and minimally invasive surgery, her goal is to provide optimal, personalized, and state of the art multidisciplinary treatment of urologic cancers with minimal surgical morbidity.
Dr. Babaian is board certified by the American Board of Urology and is a member of the American Urological Association, the Society of Urologic Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Women in Urology, and the European Association of Urology. She serves as a reviewer for national and international journals and has authored numerous articles in Urologic Oncology, including original research, book chapters, and reviews.
