John P. Mulhall, MD MSc FECSM FACS FRCSI, is a native of Dublin, Ireland. He completed medical school at University College Dublin (1985). After his internship, he pursued a MSc Degree in Anatomy at UCD (1987). After general surgery training in Dublin, he completed Urology residency at University of Connecticut (1995). His Sexual & Reproductive Medicine Fellowship was conducted at Boston University (1996).
He is the Director of the Male Sexual & Reproductive Medicine Program, the Sexual Medicine Fellowship and the Sexual & Reproductive Medicine Research Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He holds an adjunct position as Professor of Urology in the Department of Urology at Cornell University Medical Center.
He is the immediate past Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Sexual Medicine (2014-2024) and sits on the editorial board of The Journal of Urology and AUA Update. Dr. Mulhall has 400 papers published in peer-reviewed journals (H-index, October 2024 = 71, >16,500 citations), and has published 58 book chapters and 10 books to date. Dr Mulhall has varied basic and clincial research interests.
He he has held many Society positions including: SMSNA Secretary (2007-10) and President (2011); Chairman, AUA Core Curriculum Committee (2012-15); AUA written examination committee (2005-2008); AUA education council (2012-2015); AUA Practice Guideline committee (2016-2024), AUA guidleines panels testosterone deficiency (Chair), Priapism, Ejaculatory Dysfunction and Male Infertility (2018-2022). He sits on the American Board of Urology’s oral examination committee and is currently Secretary-General of the International Society for Sexual Medicine.
He has been honored with the following awards: Career Development Award from the US Veterans Administration (1998-2001); Robert P. Nelson Award from SMSNA (2001); Young Investigator Award from ISSM (2000); Ginestié Award from ISSM (2002); Distinguished Service Award from SMSNA (2022); AUA Gold Cystoscope Award (2005).
