Christopher L. Marsh, MD
Dr. Marsh is the Vice President for Surgical, Radiologic, and OB/GYN Services at Scripps Clinic and is the Chief of the Organ Transplantation Service in the Division of Organ & Cell Transplantation and Director of the Center for Organ and Cell Transplantation at Scripps Green Hospital. He oversees the Scripps Clinic Biorepository, Bioinformatics/genomic, and Translational Research Cores. Previously, Dr. Marsh was associate professor of surgery and urology, Director of the Kidney/ Pancreas Transplantation Program and associate head of the Division of Organ Transplantation at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.
Dr. Marsh attended medical school and completed a residency at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California, followed by a transplantation fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Marsh is board certified and is an American Society of Transplant Surgeons trained multi-organ transplant surgeon and is UNOS qualified transplant surgeon. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Transplant Surgeons, International Pancreas and Islet Transplant Association, and American and International Liver Transplant Societies. He has written numerous articles and chapters and holds positions on national and regional transplantation and organ procurement committees. He is a member of the UNOS liver and intestine and pancreas islet committees.
Dr. Marsh's active research activity includes clinical trials using new immunosuppressive drug regimens in liver, pancreas and kidney transplants, pioneered steroid-free immunosuppression in organ transplantation and helped initiate new protocols in islet transplantation for the treatment of insulin requiring diabetes. He has expertise in liver, kidney, pancreas, pancreatic islet transplantation, adrenal and renal surgery. And currently investigating in the areas of ischemic reperfusion of organ transplants and biomarkers in this area.
