Lynn Stothers is a Canadian urologist, researcher and professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Lynn completed her undergraduate medical studies and went on to become the first women to graduate in Urology from UBC. She was the first woman to win the McLaughlin Scholarship from the UBC facilitating her subspecialty training in reconstructive urology, neuro-urology, urodynamics and female urology at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) under Dr. Shlomo Raz. Lynn returned to UBC, completed a Master’s in Epidemiology and subsequently obtained joint appointments at UBC;s School of Population and Public Health and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. During her tenure Lynn has received over 35 awards for scholarly work including the IB Holubitsky award.
As an educator Lynn has supervised masters, PhD, and post-doctoral students across disciplines and from around the world. Her research has led to patents related to non invasive technology for diagnosis and treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms.
During her research career she has received grant funding from agencies including the US National Institutes of Health, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Craig Neilsen Foundation. Her research lab is located in the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD) where she is a Principal Investigator. There she pursues novel diagnostic methods and treatments for LUTS including neurologic conditions such as spinal cord injury.
Lynn was selected as a Peter Wall Institutes of Advanced Studies Scholar where she completed novel avenues of research into the neurologic control of the bladder which she has termed the ‘brain-bladder connection’. Lynn is an elected UBC senator, as a joint faculties representative where she supports motions which integrate educational experiences for undergraduate and graduate students across disciplines. Lynn is a proud member of the AUA Board of Directors, Urology Care Foundation.
