Topic: Overcoming Health Disparities in Urologic Research
Health disparities exist across many demographics including race, gender, sexual orientation, geography, and socio-economic status. Research is a tool that can be used to generate and confirm or deny hypotheses about health disparities, with a goal to eliminate these differences. Unfortunately, structural barriers exist within research that limit our ability to understand and study health disparities or to generalize research findings more broadly. In this symposium we plan to explore methods to optimize the performance and application of urologic research to reduce health disparities.
Learning Objectives:
Describe structural factors that can limit the generalizability of urologic research
Initiate collaborations to expand data networks
Identify way to expand the application of urologic research
Recognize the impact of community-based research on health disparities
