Course Description: This course will present an in-depth approach of the latest clinical developments in the office diagnosis and medical/surgical treatment of the infertile male. The course will serve as a complete review in addressing the male fertility patient. In addition to reviewing the fundamentals of male factor infertility, advances in our understanding of the genetic causes of infertility will be addressed. Techniques and interpretation of the endocrine workup, office evaluation (history and physical) and appropriate laboratory testing will be reviewed and updated. Medical and surgical management of the infertile male will be discussed with an emphasis on recent innovations, including the evolving role of ultrasonography, an update on tests of sperm function and a detailed review of the techniques of sperm retrieval (epididymis or testis) for subsequent assisted-reproductive therapy micromanipulation. The latest medical therapies will also be discussed, and there will be a strong focus on case management. Staying current, the faculty will again discuss techniques to develop a social media and community presence that will target infertile couples, emphasizing the efficacy of male factor diagnosis and treatment.

Learning Objectives:

Identify the significant potential health risks associated with male infertility and how to comprehensively evaluate these patients.
Classify both traditional and innovative tests that are currently being utilized, including specific genetic tests such as Y-deletion assays, high-resolution karyotype, cystic fibrosis testing, fluorescent in situ hybridization, and preimplantation genetic screening.
Discuss the newest techniques of microsurgical corrective treatment for vasal/epididymal obstruction as well as the latest innovations in sperm retrieval surgeries.
Review the latest medical therapies in the treatment of specific as well as idiopathic testicular failure, as well as the links between a diagnosis of impaired fertility and increased future risk of other important health issues.
Develop a social media and community presence that will target infertile couples, emphasizing the important role of male factor diagnosis and treatment.
