Course Description: The course provides a practical, guideline-concordant approach to interpreting 24-hour urine collections and medical management to prevent kidney stones. The learners will learn how to interpret 24-hour urine collections assessing for stone risk factors. They will learn how to address different metabolic abnormalities with dietary and medical intervention. General dietary recommendations for kidney stone prevention will also be reviewed.

Learning Objectives:

Explain 24-hour urine collections and identify underlying metabolic abnormalities which predispose patients to forming kidney stones.
Apply appropriate dietary management based on interpretation of 24-hour urines for prevention of kidney stones.
Identify appropriate medical (pharmaceutical) management to prevent kidney stones based on 24-hour urine collections.
