Course Description: The evaluation and management of urethral stricture disease has evolved based on changing pathophysiological mechanisms of stricture formation and innovations in drug delivery and technology. Members of the AUA Guideline Panel will provide evidence-based updates on the diagnosis and treatment of urethral stricture. Building on the 2017 AUA Guideline, this course incorporates new literature subject to a rigorous evidence review and an expanded scope to include female and transgender patients. Innovations in the diagnosis, initial treatment and surgical reconstruction will be presented in a case-based format involving use of imaging studies, surgical video and audience response participation to create active learning opportunities. Specific topics for expanded discussion include diagnostic workup for female urethral stricture; validity of the concept of urethral rest; evidence in support of adjunctive local drug delivery after endoscopic treatment of stricture; addressing quality of life expectations in surgical counseling; advances in techniques of bulbar urethroplasty including nontransecting; robotic bladder neck reconstruction; graft and flap approaches to female urethral stricture; and guidance on evaluation and management of strictures in patients after gender-affirming genital surgery. Upon completion of the course, the participant will have increased medical knowledge and also be better prepared to lead discussions involving quality of life choices using shared decision making.
