Dr. Terry Hicks was the Associate Chair of the Department of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Ochsner Clinic New Orleans. He is also Clinical Professor of Surgery at LSU School of Medicine. He has served as the president of the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and has served as an Examiner for the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery for over 30 years. A Texas native, Dr. Hicks attended the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio and did his surgical residency at the University of Louisville under the direction of Hiram Polk Jr. MD. He completed his fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans and became part of the faculty there in 1982. He was involved in a busy clinical practice and active in both basic science and clinical research. Dr. Hicks has served on editorial board of peer-reviewed journals and has authored or co-authored over 100 medical articles and 15 chapters in medical text books. He has co-authored two text books including Complications of Colon Rectal Surgery and Improved Outcomes of in Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Hicks has been cited repeatedly for his excellence in the field of Colon and rectal Surgery by being named to: Best Doctors in America, Consumers' Research Council and America's Top Surgeons and Newsweek's Top Cancer Physicians in America. He has played a major role in the American College of Surgeons Socio-economic Division and testified before Congress concerning "Surgeons' Concerns Relating to the Medicare Reimbursement System". He has served as a member of the FDA Molecular and Clinic Genetics and the New Surgical Devices panels. He was also appointed to the Louisiana Disciplinary Board for Attorneys and has testified as an expert witness in medical malpractice cases. For more than 30 years, Dr. Hicks has been committed to improving care for patients suffering from disease of the colon and rectum and continues to foster the careers of young surgeons.
