Aimal Khan, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Colon and Rectal Surgery in the Section of Surgical Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN. Dr. Khan earned his medical degree from Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan. He completed his general surgery residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia where he served as administrative chief resident. He received his fellowship training in Advanced Robotic GI Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham followed by specialty training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center Dallas. His research interests include computer vision analysis of surgical videos, development of computerized image-guided precision tools, health service research, and patient reported outcomes. Dr. Khan has multiple first-author publications in these areas. He is passionate about teaching residents and medical students and was multiple awards as a resident and faculty. He also serves as the Associate Program Director for colorectal surgery fellowship. Dr. Khan’s clinical focus is colorectal cancer, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and complex diverticular disease. He has extensive training in minimally invasive approaches, including laparoscopic and robotic techniques. He is an active member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Association of Academic Surgery, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons. He is board certified in general surgery and colorectal surgery.
