In this symposium, common practices in colorectal poorly supported by evidence will be debunked. The evidence in support of or against staple and suture line reinforcement for anastomotic protection, omental flaps to fill the empty pelvis, routine use of surgical drains, and wound management strategies to mitigate SSI will be critically reviewed. The role of dietary fiber in managing diverticulitis and postoperative patients will also be evaluated and evidence-based recommendations will be balanced against real-world practice and surgeon preferences.
