Dr. Gubser is from Chicago, Illinois. She began her journey into social advocacy when she attended St. Ignatius College Prep. She later continued her Jesuit education at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL. While shestudied business management, she continued to volunteer in the community with disenfranchised populations. After completing her undergraduate at Spring Hill College, she returned to Chicago and began working for the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Dr. Gubser began her career as the Executive Assistant to Sheriff Thomas Dart. During that experience she was introduced to many social justice areas such as the increasing numbers of mentally ill detainees that were housed in the Cook County Jail, the challenges one faces when being released from the Cook County Jail to disenfranchised communities, and the multigenerational cycles of trauma and incarceration. Dr. Gubser left the Cook County Sheriff’s Office in 2011 to pursue her degree in clinical psychology. While in training, Dr. Gubser worked at TASC providing psycho-diagnostic assessments for women involved in the Cook County Mental Health Court. Next, she worked with the Women’s Substance Abuse Treatment program providing trauma-informed and gender specific therapy in the Cook County Jail. She later went on to work as a psychotherapist at A Safe Haven Foundation. Dr. Gubser completed her doctoral internship at Lawrence Hall. In August, 2016, Dr. Gubser graduated from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She returned to the Cook County Department of Corrections as the Chief of Programs overseeing educational, religious, mental health and wellness programming. Since March 2020 Dr. Gubser worked with Cermak Health Services on a collaborative plan to navigate the COVID 19 pandemic. In May of 2021 Dr. Gubser became the Executive Director of the Cook County Department of Corrections.
