Josef K Rivera, MS, MPH, is a third-year medical student at the Wright State University, Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) in Dayton, OH. Prior to attending medical school, Josef completed master’s degrees at Boston University (BU) in medical sciences and public health with an emphasis on community assessment, program design, implementation, and evaluation. At BU, he was introduced to and developed a passion for the field of qualitative research in topics, including global intimate partner violence and physician suicide. He has continued to develop his expertise in qualitative research as a medical student while working closely with his mentors, Sydney Silverstein, PhD, and Danielle Gainer, MD, on the population of individuals who use substances in the Greater Dayton area. After graduating from medical school, Josef aspires to practice addiction medicine as double board certified in Family Medicine and Psychiatry.
