Dr. Saia originally trained as a nurse at Georgetown University School of Nursing and then went on to obtain her medical degree from University of Vermont and completed residency at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Saia is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Boston University School of Medicine and the director of Project Respect; Substance Use Disorder in Pregnancy Treatment Clinic. This multidisciplinary specialty clinic provides in-patient and out-patient high-risk obstetric and psychiatric care, relapse prevention, group counseling, and social services for women with substance use disorder. The RESPECT staff include three addiction medicine trained obstetric providers, a psychiatrist, an addiction psychiatry nurse practitioner and an LICSW. For women with opioid addiction, Project RESPECT provides supervised methadone and buprenorphine maintenance therapy through the pregnancy and postpartum periods.
