Denver Health Medical Center
J Chris Sheldon, Ph.D. is a Colorado licensed psychologist for Denver Health and Hospitals and is an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He has worked for Denver Health’s Behavioral Health Services since 1999 and is currently a Clinical Researcher. He served as the Chief Psychologist from 1999 until 2022 and was also the Psychology Training Director from 2005 until 2018. Dr. Sheldon’s clinical practice has focused on work with children, adolescents, and families. Dr. Sheldon was a Co-PI on a previous Robert Wood Johnson grant that developed a telephonic assessment and counseling program for low-income primary care patients. Denver Health psychologists and psychology interns provide treatment for adolescents and adults with OUDs and SUDs, increasing access to evidence-based interventions. In 2020 Dr. Sheldon led a successful effort to obtain funding for an interdisciplinary infant mental health specialty clinic to complement the work of a similar team in the Denver Health primary care clinics. Dr. Sheldon has been the PI on three previous HRSA-funded psychology training grants that trained future psychologists in integrated primary care and in work with vulnerable populations.
