Matthew (Matt) J. Arduino began his public health career in 1980 as a mycobacteriologist with the Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research, in Valhalla NY, and a microbiologist at the Westchester County Medical Center before returning to graduate school in 1984. Dr. Arduino joined the Hospital Infections Program (now Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion) in 1988 as a Research Microbiologist in the Hospital Environment Laboratory Branch. He has served in various capacities since joining the program as a bench level scientist, Section Chief, Team Lead, Deputy Branch Chief, Branch Chief of the Clinical and Environmental Microbiology Branch, and is currently the Senior Advisor for Environmental Hygiene and Infection Prevention.
Education: Dr. Arduino a B.S. in Biology from the College of Mount Saint Vincent with, an M.S. in Microbiology from New York Medical College, and a Dr.P.H. in Parasitology and Laboratory Practice from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Scientific interests and research: Dr. Arduino's interest includes the role of the environment in disease transmission. He is known internationally for his work in the field of Nephrology for his contributions to understanding and controlling and preventing dialysis-associated diseases. His other interests include disinfection, sterilization, environmental infection control, and water quality issues.
Committees: Dr. Arduino serves on a number of CDC and Interagency Committees and Working Groups as well as the Renal Disease and Detoxification Committee, Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), U.S. Technical Advisory Group for ISO/TC 150/SC2 Cardiovascular Implants and Extracorporeal Systems, U.S. Technical Advisory Group for ISO/TC 150/SC6 Active implants
Publications: Dr. Arduino has authored and co-authored of 153 papers and11 book chapters, and has contributed to 22 MMWRs, and 14 Government Guidance Documents (CDC, CDC-FDA, EOP-InterAgency).
Awards: 43 awards from CDC, FDA, HHS, USPHS, the College of Mount Saint Vincent, and the National Association of Nephrology Technicians and Technologists
