Daria Van Tyne, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Daria attended Vassar College, completed her PhD at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in the lab of Dyann Wirth, and then was a post-doc in the lab of Mike Gilmore at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Daria joined the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in July, 2018. The Van Tyne lab studies bacterial evolution during human infection using comparative and functional genomics approaches. Work in the lab focuses on understanding how bacteria evolve during human infection to resist antibiotics and host immune defenses. The lab is also working to develop new approaches to treat resistant bacterial infections more effectively, including bacteriophage therapy.
