Dr. April Baller is the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Lead within the World Health Organization (WHO) Health Emergencies (WHE) Programme, based in Geneva, Switzerland. She holds an MBBCh, PG Certificate in Infection Control, MRCGP, Diploma in HIV Management, DTM&H, MPH, and an MBA. April has over 20 years of experience in a range of medical and public health areas, including emergency medicine and communicable disease outbreak management. She has been involved in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Marburg outbreak in Equatorial Guinea, prior to this with Ebola Virus Disease outbreaks in Uganda, DRC and West Africa, as well as management of Lassa & Dengue Fever. She previously worked in protracted humanitarian emergencies settings with several NGOs including Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Darfur, Yemen and Colombia. She has implementation research experience with Prevention of Mother-To-Child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV programs in Malawi, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe. Prior to that April worked as a clinician in the UK, Australia, and South Africa as well as a medical coordinator on expeditions to Mount Kilimanjaro.
