Mary Kay Foster BSN, RN, CIC, NHDP-BC was named Special Pathogens Program Manager for IUH-Academic Health Center in May 2016. Prior to that, she served as an Infection Preventionist and aided with the development of the Special Pathogens Unit (SPU). Foster transitioned to Infection Prevention in 2012, focusing on highly infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and Influenza as well as ambulatory care, outpatient dialysis and infection prevention during construction.
From 1986 to 2012, she filled many roles in the Cardiovascular Critical Care and Cardiovascular Surgery units at IUH. She has been a Chairperson of IUH Methodist Hospital’s Emergency Management Council and active in Pandemic preparedness throughout the Indiana University Health System consisting of 17 facilities. Mary Kay has established close working relationships with local and state public health departments. "Be Prepared" works for Girl Scouts and works in healthcare when planning for the next special pathogens patient or pandemic.
