Dr. Katreena Merrill Ph.D. CIC FAPIC has been a nurse for over 35 years and is currently a Professor at Brigham Young University (BYU) College of Nursing, Provo, Utah. She also works as a nursing research consultant for Intermountain Healthcare. She started her career at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, specializing in infection prevention (IP) control and continuous improvement (CI). She received her Ph.D. in nursing research in 2011 from the University of Utah. She is a member of several national professional organizations, including the American Nurses Association, Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC), and Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA). She currently serves on the research committee for APIC and SHEA and Utah APIC chapter board. She currently teaches interprofessional education, Ethics in Nursing, and pediatrics at BYU. Dr. Merrill’s research focus is patient safety in healthcare, with an emphasis on healthcare-associated infections.
