2307-G - How to Prioritize Demands of Work

Session Description: Most infection preventionists have experienced the panicked call late in the day signaling an urgent clinical issue. And, like most infection preventionists, who we know represent an extremely stressed and overburdened workforce, that these urgent issues often compete with other clinical and operational demands. This presentation brief highlights two lean management skills that infection preventionists can use to respond to urgent and non-urgent issues. First, the presenter will outline types of waste present in our leadership work such as unevenness, overburden or non-value-added activities. Second, the presenter will identify strategies to prioritize urgent, important issues and to reflect on opportunities where infection preventionists might delegate, defer or delete in order to attend to pressing issues.
