Session Description: Antibiotic stewardship (AS) continues to evolve with new practices, measures, and targeted areas of focus that support antibiotic safety efforts, including diagnostics and ambulatory management. Join us as we delve into emerging AS research from the lens of an infection preventionist (IP) and an infectious diseases pharmacist, both of whom are APIC Heroes of Implementation Science Research Scholars. We will explore the rich history of AS and IP in performing diverse, complex work with a shared goal of reducing patient harm from infection while committing to care that is equitable and inclusive. AS and IP are ideal partners, the time is now to leverage these skills to jointly extend our reach, contribute to systematic improvements in care, and advance our scientific responsibility.

Learning Objectives:

Explore the relationship between Antibiotic Stewardship Programs (ASP) and Infection Preventionists (IPs).
Describe recent trends in ASP research such as diagnostics, diversity equity and inclusion, outpatient centers.
Identify opportunities to perform and contribute to interdisciplinary research between IPs and ASPs.
