Session Description: Leadership is a key ingredient to being both a successful Infection Preventionist (IP) and having a successful infection prevention program. As IPs we often have limited authority and thus are left with leveraging relationships and influencing behavior through emotional intelligence and strong communication. These endeavors are made even more challenging in times of crisis when flexibility and rapid, rational decisions are required.

In this workshop, we will examine key skills necessary for leading: self, others, projects, committees, programs, and organizational executives. We will also hear from past and present APIC leaders on their leadership journeys and tips for the next generation of infection prevention leaders.

Define leadership and discuss leadership skills essential to becoming a successful Infection Preventionist.
Describe the Leadership domain and subdomains of the APIC Competency Model.
Discuss strategies and tools for leading during crisis
