Session Description: Infection risks can come from anywhere – and with our combined personal experience of over 20 years in the field behind us, we do mean ANYWHERE. Don't wait for problems to happen to prepare for them – up your infection prevention (IP) game and take a proactive approach. Having a robust toolkit of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) risk assessment templates can provide Infection Preventionists (IPs) at any level with a solid foundation in whatever risk scenarios they may encounter.

In this presentation, participants will learn the who/what/when/where/why of risk assessments and the many elements that may present themselves for consideration during the process. Participants should be prepared for an interactive session, and at the end should be able to explain how the risk assessment process can be applied in infection prevention and control, be able to use risk assessment templates provided during the session and speak to the strategies they have formed as individuals and as small groups during risk assessment scenarios we present during the session.

Learning Objectives:

List two elements to consider when developing an infection prevention and control risk assessment.
Explain two key factors that need addressed before putting an infection prevention and control risk assessment into action.
Describe two ways the risk assessment process can be applied to preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAI).
