With over 30 years’ experience as a registered nurse, Melissa brings depth and breadth to her current role in public health. Having over eight years of experience in Infection Prevention and Control and being nationally Certified in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC), Melissa has certainly become a professional in this field. Her career has spanned the acute care division of hospitals in perioperative services, digestive services, the overall umbrella of surveillance, prevention, and control of infections, and was a leader in confronting the COVID-19 Pandemic as it arrived in the mid-south of the United States. Melissa now serves the people of Arkansas at the Arkansas Department of Health as a member of the Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Program, Outbreak Prevention and Response Branch, furthering the knowledge of IPC in healthcare facilities across the state. She believes that responsiveness, leading practice, and team effort toward infectious disease prevention and management are essential in reducing harm and curbing the effects of illness.
