Lisa Gillen is a certified Infection Preventionist at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with eight years of infection control experience. Lisa completed her Master of Science degree in Microbiology from Thomas Jefferson University. Prior to becoming an Infection Preventionist, Lisa served as an adjunct Professor teaching Microbiology and Human Biology at Rowan University and Camden County College. Before working as an Adjunct Professor, Lisa served as Laboratory Manager for the Clinical Research Unit at Thomas Jefferson University. Lisa earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and became a certifed Medical Technologist. Lisa enjoys using her skills and experience to reduce hosptal acquired infections. Her current initiative is reducing CLABSI rates using a bundled, collaborative approach using infection prevention measures. Another focus is reducing infections in colorectal surgeries using an informative and collaborative approach with key hospital stakeholders. Some past accomplishments included a marked reduction of CLABSI rates in a large urban hospital, operationalizing a hand hygiene app between three hospitals the enabled the hospital system to collect thousands of hand hygiene observations per month and served as project manager on a successful system-wide SSI reduction project.
