System Senior Director, Infection Prevention & Control

Ranekka Dean, PhD, is the System Senior Director in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) for NYU Langone Health. She oversees and coordinates activities of infection preventionists at all hospital and ambulatory locations while providing guidance for all aspects of healthcare infection surveillance, prevention, and control across the NYU health system.
Dr. Dean joined NYU Langone in 2001 as a surgical nurse and advanced to assistant nurse manager in 2003 before being promoted to nurse manager in 2007. In 2009 she joined Infection Prevention and Control as an IPC practitioner and went on to earn her PhD in nursing research from NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing in 2017.
She has been certified in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) since 2014, and was inducted as a fellow in the Association for Professionals in Infection Control in 2016. Dr. Dean has published and has peer-reviewed publications in the field of infection prevention and control. She has presented at the local, regional and national level and holds an appointment as a research assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She is devoted to her community and has served it in numerous capacities, teaching the community strategies for protecting themselves against respiratory viruses.
