Yale New Haven Health
Rosa M. Flores, MD, MPH, CIC, Infection Preventionist at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Dr. Flores has been involved in the infection prevention field for eight years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin. She completed her MD degree at the University Autonoma of Guadalajara Medical School and acquired an MPH degree from Chamberlain University. Additionally, she is CIC board certified. Prior to her position at Yale New Haven Hospital, she worked at Middlesex Hospital, where in 2015 she became the co-chair of the CAUTI prevention team and the critical care unit (CCU) infection prevention liaison. As a co-chair, she helped pilot a project that changed the culture of the CCU unit by inspiring the staff to honor their "do not harm oath" and therefore, motivating providers to remove unnecessary urinary catheters.
Currently, Dr. Flores works for the ambulatory infection prevention department at YNHH where she oversees approximately 300 ambulatory sites. As part of her role, she has worked to ensure these sites are following infection prevention guidelines by inspecting the environment of care, creating infection risk assessments for construction sites (ICRA), helping with new facilities design, overseeing low-level, high-level disinfection and sterilization of instruments and devices, safe needle practices, aseptic techniques for ambulatory procedures, and exposure investigations, among other responsibilities. She received an Impact Award for assisting in the development of a database to track the 300 ambulatory locations. She also helped create a numerical scoring structure to be able to pull data to track progress and drive change in the ambulatory arena. Dr. Flores is an active member of the APIC New England chapter. In connection to her role as Infection Preventionist, Dr. Flores co-authored a published paper titled “The Disinfection of Virtual Reality Devices in Healthcare Settings”.
