Infection Preventionist
AdventHealth
Amanda Crowson, MPH, RN, CPH, CIC is an infection preventionist at AdventHealth Tampa with over nine years of experience. Amanda graduated with her Master of Public Health with a dual concentration in epidemiology and global communicable disease from the University of South Florida College of Public Health in 2013. As a student, Amanda worked in a laboratory that studied markers for drug resistance in malaria parasites. After graduating, Amanda started her career in infection prevention in the acute care setting with a focus on hand hygiene compliance and the use of personal protective equipment to decrease transmission of multi-drug resistant organisms and other hospital-acquired pathogens. Amanda has been actively involved in the implementation of a facility-wide universal decolonization protocol, reduction of central line-associated bloodstream infections in the intensive care unit, and promotion of a multi-disciplinary approach to reduce ventilator-associated events. Amanda has enjoyed serving on the board of her local Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) chapter as a past chapter treasurer and annual conference committee member. She became a registered nurse during the COVID-19 pandemic and is expected to graduate with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing this year. Amanda is passionate about advancing patient safety through innovative and collaborative means, working to understand and prevent human and process factors that lead to patient harm, and supporting APIC’s vision of creating a safer world through the prevention of infection.
