Janelle Palacios, RN, CNM, PhD (Salish & Kootenai) is a nurse midwife, researcher and storyteller originally from the Flathead Reservation located in Montana. Dr. Palacios has over 20 years experience collaborating with rural and urban tribal communities, has served as Co-President of the Native Research Network, the nation’s largest organization of health research focused Native American researchers and allies, and has been nationally recognized for her expertise in Indigenous maternal health through consultation work with the CDC, National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention, AMCHP, NICHQ and a HRSA/MCHB four year appointment on the Advisory Committee on Infant and Maternal Mortality where she was also the Co-Chair of the Health Equity Workgroup within this advisory committee. Dr. Palacios enfolds the art of storytelling in custom workshops with both individuals and organizations for greater MCH health equity as the Founder of Encoded 4 Story. Clinically, she has practiced as a nurse midwife for over 12 years in Northern California, where she also conducts large hospital data based studies to improve clinical practice and support physiological birth.
