Shanel serves as the Perinatal Health Program Manager at AMCHP. She supports the Pritzker Preterm Birth Initiative’s Healthy Beginnings with Title V: Advancing Anti-Racism in Preterm Birth Prevention project. Nurturing equitable relationships with thought leaders that provide culturally reflective and community-rooted services and support, she partners across AMCHP to ensure alignment and advocates for them by creating an environment of trust-building and transformational partnership via networking and peer sharing. She is also responsible for conducting research to place state MCH funding levers and programmatic, policy, and data decisions in historical context and the context of power and oppression, unfair benefits and burdens, and overall health equity and racial equity impact. Shanel supports the advancement of MCH by building AMCHP member capacity to sustain transformational partnerships with community thought leaders and identify and disrupt health inequities at their root.
