Birth Justice Scholar/Graduate student
New York City Department of Mental Health and Hygiene/Mailman School of Public Health
Harrison, New Jersey
Hello! My name is Miral Abbas and I am a 2nd year Master of Public Health student with a concentration in research at Columbia University, Mailman School of Public Health. Additionally, I work a Birth Justice Scholar at the New York City Department of Mental Health and Hygiene's Maternal Health Quality Improvement Network conducting research and evaluation for their programs. As a first generation American woman, I've always had a purpose to work in underserved communities, and maternal heath is a public health field of personal interest and connection. I intend to work in public health academia, and eventually conduct research on maternal health amongst American immigrants, particularly south asian and middle eastern communities. I am originally from San Francisco, CA, but now live in New York City! My hobbies include excessive coffee drinking and exploring the city as I have always grown up as a city girl.
