East St. Louis Healthy Start
Jeffrey P. Mayer, Ph.D., a faculty member at the Saint Louis University College for Public Health and Social Justice for almost 30 years, has extensive experience in applied public health research. In 2002, he received the First Annual Public Health Systems Research Award from the Association for Health Services Research and Policy. Dr. Mayer has been funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Missouri Department of Health, and the National Institute of Health, among others. Among many publications, he has authored a prominent chapter on health promotion in maternity care. Dr. Mayer has routinely presented at Healthy Start conferences and AMCHP meetings. For example, at the 2021 and 2022 AMCHP meetings he presented “Involving Fathers in Healthy Start In East St. Louis: A Qualitative Study” and “How Case Managers Intervene to Promote the Healthy Start Safe Sleep and Breastfeeding Benchmarks: A Qualitative Study in East St. Louis.”
