The National Institute for Children’s Health Quality (NICHQ) leads the Equity Systems Continuum (ESC) project to examine solutions to create equitable change within health care systems in maternal and child health (MCH). The ESC was developed by the Global Infant Safe Sleep Center (GISS) to conceptualize the power and disenfranchisement of historically marginalized groups working in MCH organizations. In this presentation, we will share our efforts validate the ESC using a grounded theory methodology. The validated continuum will ensure that health systems can accurately assess equity in their organizations and develop appropriate improvement strategies. Implications for programs, policies, and health equity will be discussed.
