A Collaborative Approach to Enhance Postpartum Care: Lessons Learned from the New Orleans Maternal Safety Workgroup

This presentation will give an overview of the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health Community Care Initiative’s model and pilot site intervention in New Orleans. It will discuss the importance of building an interprofessional and community collaborative to address maternal morbidity and mortality, particularly for Black women and birthing persons, centering equity, and addressing a critical window for intervention during the postpartum phase of care.
We will discuss the development of an interprofessional collaborative, the process with which the intervention was developed and vetted by community partners, and the ways in which interprofessional entities work together to build a system that improves care coordination in this critical period of time. It will highlight the ways in which the intervention was adapted to two partner sites, one hospital system and one federally qualified health center.
