Engaging Families with Abusive Head Trauma Prevention through Clinical and Community Partnerships

Prevention education of any form can be difficult to provide to parents and caregivers of newborns, especially if the individuals don’t feel concerned about the topic or don’t identify with the materials provided to them. This presentation discusses a shaken baby syndrome/abusive head trauma (SBS/AHT) prevention program that has compiled decades of research to ensure the prevention information provided is inclusive, diverse, and provided in ways that are meaningful, memorable, and clear to parents and caregivers of newborns. This presentation will also discuss how partnerships within the program are developed in the community and how a Three Dose exposure approach can lead to strengthened partnerships and greater interprofessional collaboration in SBS/AHT prevention.
