Expanding Patient Access to Title X Services in Ohio: Telehealth Training for Providers and Staff

The goal of the project was to make Title X providers and staff more comfortable using video telehealth to engage with patients and improve access to care. From May through August of 2022, seven virtual training sessions about telehealth were conducted for 187 providers/staff in Ohio. Providers and staff from 95% of Title X projects throughout Ohio attended a session. Overall, there were 187 attendees from 53 of Ohio's 88 counties. Of these, 49% were clinical providers and 46% were administrative staff (data was missing from 5% of participants). More than 50% of the patients served by these Title X clinics were Medicaid recipients.
Trainings covered topics such as telehealth etiquette/communication, technology platforms, workflow, marketing/billing and troubleshooting. The providers participated in simulated encounters of common clinical scenarios with standardized patients (actors). Didactic methods were also incorporated as a training method for both providers and staff. Sessions were 3-hours in length and limited to a maximum of 20 participants to allow for interaction and high engagement.
