Healing Roots of Racism and Creating New Narratives for Healing: The StoryWork Project

Workshop participants will learn of the StoryWork Project, which was piloted by the Healthy Start TA & Support Center at NICHQ, led by Dr. Janelle Palacios. Participants will learn how the StoryWork Project guided Healthy Start grantees to explore how structural racism has permeated policies and practices aimed at exterminating, assimilating and disenfranchising AI/AN people from land, resources, culture, religion, community and family; thereby, shaping AI/AN MCH. Participants will also hear how the Project guided learners through the process of story formation, melding history and storytelling to tell new stories; our stories, and to reshape narratives and re-frame BIPOC health.
