Nurturing and Cultivating Equity within Nutrition Services

This workshop will be a panel made up of one Tulane University PhD candidate, whose dissertation is focused on examining the United States’ observed and perceived food and nutrition environment and the social structures that perpetuate inequities among Latinx people. The panel will also feature 2-3 community-based organizations based in New Orleans, Louisiana that are providing culturally centered nutrition services and programming for their communities. The panel will be moderated by an AMCHP staffer to facilitate a conversation among panelists in a way that the audience will leave with the following:
• An understanding of some of the current major racial and cultural inequities—and their historical root causes—in access to food and access to nutrition services in the United States.
• An ability to discern between strategies that help and strategies that continue to perpetuate harm when partnering with community members and organizations to decrease inequities in access to food and access to nutrition services.
• An ability to articulate the role MCH programs can play in supporting the work and capacity of existing community-based organizations working to address inequities in food insecurity and provide culturally-centered nutrition services.

The panel will wrap up with a 15-20 minute Q & A session for attendees to have the opportunity to engage with our panelists and ask any follow-up questions.
