MOMS Simulation Leadership Academy: Development and Implementation of a Rural Train-the-Trainer Perinatal Healthcare Simulation Program

The MOMS Simulation Leadership Academy is a cohort-model educational offering designed to provide health care administrators, physician champions, nurse midwives and other advanced practitioners with obstetric responsibilities, nurse leaders, and nurse educators at rural health centers the opportunity to learn the science of obstetric simulation, practice design, and implementation of various types of simulation, and learn to train specific management skills and maneuvers for a variety of obstetric complications. The Academy also integrates training on standardized patients and simulation of behavioral health and other communications related perinatal health scenarios.
This Poster Presentation will highlight development of the MOMS train-the-trainer curriculum, participant recruitment, required resources, and initial outcomes collected following the inaugural cohort of the Academy. The first cohort found the training valuable and high-quality. Survey results demonstrate increased participant knowledge and confidence in designing and implementing various types of simulation.
